It’s time for those of us in the community to Rethink autism.
Q. What does “ReThink” Autism mean??
A. It means that we have to create some new, uplifting and empowering thoughts around autism.
Q. How do you know if your thoughts are uplifting and empowering??
A. Check in with yourself and see what emotions pop up when you observe your thoughts. Does that thought put you in a positive feeling emotional place (which we call the Green Zone) or put you in a negative feeling emotional place (which we call the Red Zone)? If the latter, then it’s time to re-assess and find some new thoughts that align with the Green Zone.
Q. Why are these positive thoughts so important?
A. First (and most importantly), we feel better because these thoughts align with who we truly are. Second, how we think about ourselves (and/or our child) can either positively or negatively affect the outcomes we see. Third, our thoughts around autism influence those around us, and if we want people to think positively about autism, then we must do so first.
It starts with each one of us, so let’s start today!
